Sterling Hayden
St. Louis, Mo. Missouri NASA Education Program

Sterling Hayden received his B.S. in Ed. from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a Unified Science major. He is Missouri-certified to teach any science in grades 9 through 12.  Sterling later received his M.S. degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management from the same institution in 2009.

Sterling has a varied background, most recently as a Coordinating Instructor at the Newfound Harbor Marine Institute in Big Pine Key, Florida where he taught Marine Biology and Ecology.  He also gave presentations to visiting groups ranging in age from grade schoolers to college level.  Prior to his Florida activities, he served two years as an Educational Interpreter and Classroom Instructor at the St. Louis Zoo where he created curriculum and served as both a formal classroom instructor and an informal educator through group presentations primarily centering around animal welfare, conservation, animal habitats, and wildlife diversity.  Again, his clientele ranged from young children through adults.  Before the zoo, Sterling served a stint as an After-School Science Instructor for the Mad Science Program of Greater St. Louis where he created and conducted after-school programming (including an array of activities) in the fields of Chemistry and Physics.
