American Wind Symphony Members to Perform on KRCU's Caffe Concerto

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 17, 2009 -- KRCU at SoutheastMissouriStateUniversitywill welcome members of the American Wind Symphony Orchestra (AWSO) to its studios on Tuesday, Aug. 18. An ensemble will perform live on the station’s locally produced classical music program, "Caffe Concerto," beginning at 11 a.m.

The public is invited to be part of a live audience for the performance at the KRCU Studios in the SerenaBuildingon the Southeast campus.

This year’s group of exceptionally talented young professional musicians represent a 52-year history that has included concerts in 300 U.S.communities and 20 foreign countries.  This will mark the final stop of the 2009 season, as well as the finale concert of their 52-year history.  The citizens of Cape Girardeau are honored to have been chosen to be a part of this historic event.

The 40-member symphony will be performing a public concert at Cape Girardeau’s RiverfrontParkon Tuesday, Aug. 18 beginning at 7:30 p.m.Adult tickets are $5 with 18 and under admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the Arts Council, Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, OldTownCapeand Shivelbine Music and Sound. Tickets also will be available at the floodgate the night of the concert. Guests should bring a lawn chair.

Each year, music director, conductor and boat Captain Robert Austin Boudreau travels throughout the world auditioning talented young musicians from among the very best students at major conservatories and universities.  Many of the world’s major musical ensembles contain members of former summer tours. One of the most important initiatives of the AWSO has been its focus on waterfront development in communities large and small.  The floating art center’s presence combines the arts, education, entertainment and the environment in a new and vital way.
