Southeast in Top Tier of U.S. News Best Colleges’ Best Master’s Degree Universities in Midwest

The Princeton Review Ranks Southeast Among its ‘Best in the Midwest’

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 17, 2010 – Southeast Missouri State University is listed in the top tier of best master’s degree-granting institutions in the Midwest in the 2011 edition of Best Colleges by U.S. News Media Group.

In addition, Southeast was named one of the best colleges and universities in the Midwest earlier this month by The Princeton Review. The education services company selected Southeast as one of 152 institutions it profiles in its “Best in the Midwest” section of its website feature “2011 Best Colleges: Region by Region.”

The exclusive U.S. News rankings, which include rankings of more than 1,400 schools nationwide, are available today at www.usnews.com/colleges, and will also be published in the September issue of U.S.News & World Report, on newsstands starting Aug. 31. Over the past two decades, the U.S. News college rankings, which group schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, has grown to be the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education opportunities.

The U.S. News rankings are based on data gathered from participating colleges for 16 widely accepted indicators of excellence. Among the many factors weighed in determining the rankings, the key measures of quality are: peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges in its “2011 Best Colleges: Region by Region” website section. Rather, the Princeton Review includes institutions in its listings based on surveys in which students are asked to rate their own schools based on their experience at them.
