Free Tickets Available for ‘Into the Woods’by News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 19, 2011 – Southeast Missouri State University will offer 10 pairs of free tickets to the Department of Theatre and Dance’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s hit musical, “Into the Woods” during its final two performances Oct. 1-2 as part of the Theater Communications Group’s (TCG) a Free Night of Theatre (FNOT), a national project designed to attract new audiences to live performances.
The performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus.
Free Night of Theater is an unprecedented audience development initiative, where theatres across the country offer the public tickets to live shows absolutely free with no “strings attached.” The goal of Free Night of Theater, introduced by TCG as a three-city pilot-program in 2005, is to increase public awareness of, and to attract new and non-traditional audiences to theatres in communities across the United States. By removing the barrier of ticket cost, FNOT encourages non-traditional audiences to think of theatre as an entertainment option.
This is the first year for Southeast’s Department of Theatre and Dance to participate in the initiative. To enter the random drawing for 10 pairs of tickets to either the Oct. 1 or 2 performances of “Into the Woods,” email your name, address and telephone number to firstname.lastname@example.org, with “Free Ticket Giveaway” in the subject heading before Sept. 28. Winners will be contacted by telephone on Sept. 29.
Dr. Kenn Stilson, interim chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, said, “We are hoping that through this program, we are able to give back and that someone who might not otherwise attend one of our productions has this opportunity. Enter to win, and enjoy the show. It’s on the house!”
