Early Music for Strings and Voice to be Featured in Sundays at Three ‘Southeast Collegium’by News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 31, 2011 -- The Chamber Music Sundays at Three series will continue its 2011-2012 season with “Southeast Collegium” on Nov. 6.
The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall on Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus. The concert is an early music concert featuring Southeast faculty and friends performing on period instruments. Festive and fun, this concert will be a perfect way to start the holiday season.
The concert will feature works for strings, flute, voice and lute by composers of the late Renaissance and early Baroque, including a pair of haunting songs by the English Composer John Dowland featuring Chris Goeke, tenor. Also on the program will be chamber works for flute and strings by Vivaldi and Handel (performed by Paul Thompson) and violin sonatas by the early Italian composers Bertali and Fontana (performed by Brandon Christensen). Sara Edgerton will perform a cello sonata by Giovanni Bononcini. This is a concert that will appeal to all audiences.
