CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 28, 2011 – Southeast Missouri Music Academy student Elizabeth Ansberry was named runner-up in the Missouri Music Teachers Association eighth grade piano competition Nov. 6 in St. Joseph, Mo.

Ansberry is the daughter of Bill and Stephanie Ansberry and is homeschooled. She studies with Academy Director Rebecca Fulgham.

“This is a high honor to receive second place recognition at a state-wide competition, especially since this was her very first competitive experience,” Fulgham said. “All participants must pass a district audition to qualify for the state event. Elizabeth performed Mozart's ‘Sonata in D Major’ and Khachaturian's ‘Toccata.’ She hopes to compete next year in the Music Teachers National Association competition."

Ansberry also studies violin at the Academy with Dr. Brandon Christensen.
