University Choir Taking Repertoire on the Road in ‘170 Miles to Memphis’ Tourby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 7, 2012 – The Southeast Missouri State University Choir will be touring Thursday, March 22, and Friday, March 23, as a part of their “170 Miles to Memphis” tour.
Southeast’s University Choir will perform at Sikeston High School in Sikeston, Mo., at 2 p.m. March 22. That same day, they will travel to Bartlett, Tenn., for a concert at 7 p.m. At 10 a.m. March 23, the choir will perform at Cordova High School in Cordova, Tenn. For the final performance, the choir will travel to the Christ Church UMC in Memphis, Tenn., for a concert at 7 p.m.
The performances will feature music by Hans Leo Hassler, Giovanni Gabrielli, Gabriel Fauré, F. J. Haydn, Joan Szymko, Lloyd Pfautsch, Peter Durow and Eric Whitacre. Southeast’s University Choir will also perform arrangements of folksongs and spirituals by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, Edwin Earle Ferguson and Moses Hogan. The University Choir is conducted by Peter Durow, director of choral activities, and is accompanied by Sara Hoffmeister who is a 2011 graduate of the Department of Music at Southeast.
Following the tour, Southeast’s University Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Southeast’s Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus.
