CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 26, 2012 -- The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music’s faculty jazz combo, the Jazz Sultans, will offer a jazz performance from 7-10 p.m. April 5 at Buckner Brewing Co. in downtown Cape Girardeau.
This jazz quintet has been together for three years and performs bebop jazz at its finest with a diverse collection of tunes from Duke Ellington to Sonny Rollins to Dizzy Gillespie. The group is composed of Southeast faculty members Matt Yount, piano, Robert Conger, trombone, and Jay Contrino, drums, Mineral Area College faculty member Mike Goldsmith, tenor sax, and Southeast alumnus Sam Godwin, bass.
“Our audience at Buckner’s is quite diverse, but they are very enthusiastic about listening to jazz in Cape Girardeau,” said Conger. “The Sultans play about three or four times per semester, and we always have a big crowd of excited jazz enthusiasts who love to listen.”
Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend. The Buckner Brewing Co. will be smoke-free during this performance.
