Letter to the Campus from President Ken Dobbinsby News Bureau on
We are saddened to learn of the Hurricane devastation on the east coast and our thoughts and concerns go out to the victims and families of this tragedy. We have approximately 40 students from New Jersey and New York who have friends or family who also are suffering as a result of these events. In addition, I know that many of our alumni on the East Coast have been affected by this disaster.
In the wake of this terrible natural disaster, we should all pause and be grateful for our own health and well-being. At the same time, the sheer magnitude of this event and the suffering it has caused and continues to cause to so many should kindle in all of us a desire to reach out and help those who are in such desperate need.
Many of you have already made arrangements to help those in need in some way. There are several national disaster aid drives. We commend those efforts and know that the people on the east coast, especially those in the states of New York and New Jersey, will need support and assistance for many months to come.
We have been advised that the best way to assist is to make a tax deductible contribution to the American Red Cross to help with the disaster relief efforts. You can give directly to the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief fund in several ways:
1. Online at http://www.redcross.org/charitable-donations
2. You can contact our local Red Cross Southeast Missouri Chapter Office at (573) 335-9471
3. You can also use your phone to make a quick $10 donation to support the American Red Cross disaster relief by texting "Redcross" to 90999. You'll receive a reply, asking you to confirm by texting "yes"
Throughout the world, Americans have always been generous in providing assistance to those in need. We hope you will join with us now in reaching out to our own fellow citizens to help them pick up the pieces of their lives. Thank you for your consideration.
