Extravaganza Will Benefit Department of Theatre and Dance Studentsby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 4, 2013 -- Mingle with the cast of “Annie” and get a sneak peak of this upcoming musical while helping send Southeast Missouri State University senior performing arts students to Broadway at the Department of Theatre and Dance’s Extravaganza Saturday, Jan. 26, at the River Campus.
The Extravaganza begins with a 5 p.m. social, followed by 6 p.m. musical performances all in the atrium of the River Campus. Backstage tours, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will also be available.
Funds raised will benefit the Senior Showcase, to be held in the spring. The Showcase is a way to professionally promote seniors who have completed a degree in performing arts.
“The Department of Theatre & Dance produces two annual senior showcases -- one in Cape Girardeau in the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre and one in New York City,” said Rhonda Weller-Stilson, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and director of the Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts at Southeast Missouri State University. “The local showcase is a wonderful evening of theatre and dance targeted toward family, friends, and the general public displaying the talents of our graduating seniors. The New York Showcase is an invitation only private presentation to top industry professionals -- casting directors, agents, managers --with the purpose of launching the careers of our most talented graduating seniors. The Extravaganza is a wonderful evening of entertainment, auction items, food and drinks, as well as a chance to meet the graduating class, and it serves as our primary fund raiser to help these talented students with travel for their trip to New York City in May.”
Sponsors of the Extravaganza are Commerce Bank, Saxony Village Retirement Community, SoutheastHealth and Rhodes 101 Convenience Stores. Tickets are $50 per person and available in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the River Campus or by calling (573) 651-2149. Seating is limited. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Jan. 19.
“Annie” will be performed in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus Feb. 20-24.
