Southeast’s Emily Denlinger to be Featured Artist in Faculty Choice Art Exhibitionby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 14, 2013 – The creative endeavors of Emily Denlinger, assistant professor of art at Southeast Missouri State University, will be featured in the “Faculty Choice Art Exhibition,” which opens Jan. 28 in the River Campus Art Gallery.
A reception will be held for the event from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 1 in the gallery. The exhibit will remain on display through Feb. 15.
This exhibition is reserved for the talented professionals who make up the Department of Art faculty. Faculty members selected showcase their own creative works, coordinate a visiting artist, or curate a thematic group exhibition.
“The Department elected to create this rotating opportunity when we moved from having a group faculty exhibition every year to having one every other year in the Crisp Museum,” says Kristin Powers Nowlin, Gallery coordinator.
Denlinger's work explores the human condition. Issues of identity, gender roles, survival and codependency are addressed within her depictions of the mundane moments of daily life. She contextualizes these images next to her interpretations of passages in popular literature and political events.
Denlinger is originally from Ohio, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2D art with a concentration in photography from Bowling Green State University. She went on study at Maryland Institute College of Art, where she earned her Master of Arts in digital art and a Master of Fine Arts in photography and digital imaging. Before coming to Southeast, she taught various digital arts, photography, and continuing education classes at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design.
The River Campus Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106.
River Campus Art Gallery hours are 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-7 p.m. on First Fridays. All gallery exhibitions, events, and talks are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Gallery Coordinator Kristin Powers Nowlin at email@example.com or (573) 651-5901.
