Subway, We Proudly Brew Now Open in Scullyby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 5, 2013 -- Students at Southeast Missouri State University can now “Eat Fresh” and sip a cup of Joe in Scully Building.
Subway and We Proudly Brew officially opened in Scully on Monday, Jan. 28, in space that formerly housed the Center for Child Studies, which relocated to Bessie Street.
“Chartwells is excited to provide a viable option in an area that their presence was limited before,” said Dr. Bruce Skinner, assistant vice president for Student Success and director of Residence Life. “Subway and We Proudly Brew served almost 900 students a day in the first week, and they will continue to get better and faster as they serve the campus. Subway has been well received.”
Subway is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays and 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Hours of operation for We Proudly Brew are 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. We Proudly Brew is closed Saturdays and Sundays.
Subway offers its full menu of meats, breads and cheeses found at most Subway establishments. We Proudly Brew is a smaller version of Starbucks which serves Starbucks coffees and additional coffee drinks. The full line of specialty espresso coffee drinks and “bold,” “medium” and “blonde” roasted coffees are available. We Proudly Brew has been certified to serve a limited variety of Frappuccino’s; Tazo bagged and brewed teas, such as black and Red Passion Lemonade; designer confections offered at full Starbucks; and several signature designed sandwiches and salads.
Students can use their meal plan and “flex dollars” in both new establishments, Skinner said, the same as they can at Olive’s Rowdy’s, the University Center and Starbucks in the University Center. Flex dollars are cash stored electronically on students’ ID cards as part of their meal plan. They can be used at most campus dining locations to buy additional meals, food items, snacks and beverages. Value exchange, which is part of the meal plan, is also available for use at these venues.
Kathy Mangels, vice president for finance and administration, said growth on the north campus has placed pressure on Chartwells, Southeast’s dining services provider, to address the existing volume and the scheduled opening of a new 262-bed residence hall north of the Otto and Seabaugh Polytechnic Building in fall 2013.
The opening of these new dining locations is in response to the demand seen from students, faculty and staff at the former smaller Scully Café. The demand for services at this smaller venue, including the ability to use meal plans, also supported this expansion of dining services, Skinner said.
