Dempster Hall to be Closed Remainder of Weekby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 16, 2013 – Due to a fire on the roof of Robert A. Dempster Hall at Southeast Missouri State University on Monday, July 15, the building will be closed for the remainder of the week.
A final assessment by the insurance company and engineers will be completed in the next few days, and the timing on reopening portions of the building will be shared at that time, said Kathy Mangels, vice president for finance and administration.
Instructors will be in contact with students who are enrolled in summer classes that were meeting in Dempster Hall to convey alternate class locations, she said.
The University administration is working with departments and employees with offices in the building to temporarily relocate them.
Mangels says cleanup in the building has begun, and structural engineers are evaluating the roof so repairs can be determined.
