High School Vocalists Convening for Men’s Choral Festival Concert Oct. 11by News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 18, 2013 – High school men from across the area will convene for a one-day festival at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus where they will perform as part of the Men’s Choral Festival Concert.
“Our featured clinician for the third annual men’s festival is Stan McGill, an active adjudicator, speaker and clinician throughout the United States,” said Peter Durow, director of choral activities at Southeast Missouri State University. “I am thrilled that he is coming from Texas to work with the area high school and current University students involved in this year’s festival.”
The Men’s Choral Festival gives participants the opportunity to study vocal technique, rehearsal procedures and performance practice with a master teacher. Singers who are juniors and seniors may also receive a mini-lesson with a member of Southeast’s voice faculty as part of the festival.
Students may register at http://www.semo.edu/music/festivals.htm and complete an application. The deadline to register is Sept. 27, and no refunds will be given after Sept. 27. Cost to participate is $20, which includes music, a folder and lunch. Students may purchase a T-shirt in advance for an additional $10.
The 5:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public. In addition to performances by the Men’s Festival Chorus, the concert will also feature performances by the Southeast Chamber Choir, the University Choir and the men of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
This is the third year the Department of Music has sponsored the event. Durow said the first year of the Men’s Festival brought over 60 high school men to the River Campus, and he expects the attendance will be even higher this year, building on the success of the first two festivals.
