Art Guild Exhibiting Their Workby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 23, 2013 – An Art Guild exhibition will be displayed beginning Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. in the River Campus Art Gallery at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
An Art Guild Talk will be held from 4-5 p.m. Oct. 4 with a reception following from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display through Oct. 24.
This diverse display of artwork was created by the Art Guild, Southeast’s Department of Art student organization. Members of the guild have a real love of art and dedication to professional practices. Works exhibited reflect both their devotion to the creative process and their progress as student-artists.
“This is a very exciting event for the members of the Art Guild, the art student organization, to exhibit their work on campus as they are able to show work that they did as part of their coursework, or work that they did on their own,” says Kristin Powers Nowlin, Gallery coordinator.
The Art Guild is an active organization of art majors who meet to support and encourage each other as artists and to plan activities. The Art Guild hosts the Holiday Art Sale prior to the winter holidays at the River Campus. Art Guild members produce ceramics, sculptures, paintings, drawings and wearable fiber art, including silk scarves, hand-pulled prints, original note cards, jewelry and photographs, for sale to the public. The organization also hosts the Chili Cook-Off and Bowl Sale, a Spring Show and Sale and off-campus art exhibits.
The Art Guild represents the visual artistic community of Southeast; guild membership is comprised of any and all art majors and minors attending the University. The guild has two main focuses – to provide a creative outlet for expression on behalf of the students of Southeast and to develop an artistic community that extends throughout the surrounding areas of southeast Missouri. Throughout the semester, the guild participates in and plans a number of collaborative activities in an effort to benefit the communities at large.
The River Campus Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106. River Campus Art Gallery hours are 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-7 p.m. on First Fridays. All Gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
