Regents to Consider Tuition Guarantee Program

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 31, 2006 – The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents will consider a Tuition Guarantee Program during a teleconference meeting at 10 a.m. Sept. 1 in the Board of Regents Room of the University Center.

If the proposal is adopted, effective with the fall 2007 semester and continuing through Spring of 2011, the University would guarantee that incidental fees for Missouri resident undergraduate students would not rise more than $400 for a typical academic year load of 30 credit hours. The guarantee would be accompanied by a pledge that the school would make every effort to keep incidental fees below the maximum of $400.

The plan is designed to address concerns by students and parents that it is difficult to budget for higher education costs due to the possibility of extreme fluctuations in tuition.

In other action, the Board will consider approving the fiscal 2008 operating budget request to be submitted to the Coordinating Board for Higher Education. The Regents also will consider approving the Ohio Valley Conference Governing Board Certification Form.

The Board will hear a report from the President, including reports on the Missouri Humanities Council Award presented to Regent Edward "Ned" Matthews III of Sikeston, Mo.; the fiscal 2008-2009 capital budget request; a report on the Student Aquatic Center project; and NCAA Division I Football Labels.

The Regents will consider a motion to go into a closed session for appropriate considerations. When the open session reconvenes, the final item of business will be a motion to adjourn.
