Clarkton Student Awarded John Howell Scholarship to Attend Malden Campus

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 5, 2008 – Mitchell Burchell of Clarkton, Mo., has been awarded the John Howell Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University-Malden for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The John  Howell Scholarship is a one-year Crisp Bootheel Education Center (CBEC) Incentive Scholarship valued at $4,500 and covers the cost of incidental, general and textbook rental fees for up to 30 Southeast credit hours per academic year at the Southeast regional campus.

Burchell is the son of Wanda and Philip Crowe of Clarkton, Mo., and Gary Burchell of Jackson, Mo., and is a 2008 graduate of Clarkton High School. During his high school years, he was active in baseball, basketball, Beta Club, Cap Club, FCA and FTA. Burchell plans on majoring in general studies at Southeast Missouri State University-Malden. Upon completion of his bachelor’s degree, he plans to attend Southeast Missouri Hospital’s radiological technician program.
