Cobden Student Awarded Phi Eta Sigma Scholarship

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 14, 2008 – Stephanie Winzenburger of Cobden, Ill., a sophomore at Southeast Missouri State University, has been awarded a $1,000 Phi Eta Sigma Scholarship for full-time undergraduate study at Southeast during the 2008-2009 academic year.

Winzenburger is pursuing a bachelor of science degree with a major in human environmental studies, dietetics option, and minor in Spanish. She was vice president of the Phi Eta Sigma chapter at Southeast during the 2007-2008 academic year after being inducted into the honor society in 2007. Winzenburger is one of 70 students selected to receive the scholarship from among members in 350 Phi Eta Sigma chapters nationwide.

Phi Eta Sigma is a national scholastic honor society which recognizes high scholastic achievement during the first year of college.  The organization was founded in 1923 at the University of Illinois.  There are now 950,000 members throughout the United States.  The Southeast Missouri State University chapter was established in 1984.
