It's that time of year again, and the Southeast community is excited to welcome all students back to campus! The Southeast experience includes more than just attending classes; it's about being engaged in your University home and taking advantage of the countless opportunities we offer beginning the first week! Use this guide to see all the fun events we have planned for you.

Early Bird Move-In 6-8 am; SRC-North

Students who cannot arrive during their scheduled time, or who want a head start on the day can check-in during this time. Details are provided in the move-in information mailed to each student in early June. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life. 

New Student Move-In Day 8 am - 3 pm; SRC-North

First-year students will check in during their scheduled time. Check-in times are listed in the move-in information mailed to each student in early June. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.

DJ Master Class 4 p.m., University Center, Program Lounge

Learn how to be a DJ or improve your skills. Up to 40 students may participate, and the top students perform at the Move-In Bash. Sponsored by Campus Life & Event Services.

Living in your Community: Residence Hall Floor Meetings & Activities, Evening, Floor or Hall Lounge

Early Evening; Residence Hall Lounges All new students living in the residence halls will meet with their Resident Assistant and Hall Director who will introduce them to on-campus living.  Please bring this booklet with you to the meeting. Your Resident Assistant will provide you with more information once you check into your hall.  Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.

Move-In Bash

First STEP Orientation

7:45 a.m.-2 p.m., University Center

Students who have not attended a First STEP orientation must attend today's session.  Failure to complete the First STEP process will prevent students from registering for classes. First STEP includes informational sessions, advising, enrollment and lunch. Sponsored by New Student Programs.

Commute and Connect!

9 a.m., Student Recreation Center-North (2nd Floor)

Get the inside scoop on what it's like to be a commuter student. Mingle with other commuters and learn how to get involved and connect with campus. Be sure to get your free Southeast T-shirt to wear to the Welcome Convocation! The group leaves at 9:40 to head to the Show Me Center for   Convocation. Welcome Convocation

10 a.m., Show Me Center

The Welcome Convocation is the one chance you will have to be with all of your peers entering Southeast in 2015!  Be sure to wear the t-shirt you received during Residence Hall Check-In or at the Commute & Connect event Friday morning.  At the Welcome Convocation, you will be greeted by University President Dr. Carlos Vargas and Student Government President Peter Jacobsen.  You will also learn more about other Opening Week activities.  Sponsored by New Student Programs.

Southeast 101

11:30 a.m., Various Campus Locations

As first-year students, you can connect with faculty and staff as well as your Opening Week leader during this interactive session. Lunch is provided with your Southeast 101 group. Southeast 101 groups depart from the Show Me Center at the conclusion of the Welcome Convocation. Sponsored by New Student Programs.

College Meetings

2:30-4:30 p.m., Various Campus Locations

Students will have the opportunity to hear the Dean of their College speak as well as interact with faculty members from their departments. Shuttles will be available to take students back to the Show Me Center parking lot at the conclusion of your meeting.

 

Southeast Serves Nature Center Clean Up

3:30-5:30 p.m., Cape Girardeau Conservation
Nature Center (2289 County Park Drive)

Assist the Nature Center with landscaping. The center showcases the cultural history and diverse natural resources of southeastern Missouri. Volunteers help keep this attraction appealing for visitors. Meet at the bookstore entrance of the University Center at 3:15 p.m. for transportation. Sponsored by Campus Life & Event Services.

Student Government Ice Cream Pig Out

7 p.m., Student Recreation Center

This all-you-can-eat Southeast tradition offers great food, friends, and fun! After enjoying ice cream served by Southeast students and administrators, stick around for an exciting performance! Sponsored by Student Government.

Movie & Discussion, "UP,"

Join us to watch the classic Disney-Pixar movie, "UP," and stay for the group discussion afterwards. If we are lucky, there may be a guest appearance of Mr. Fredricksen. Sponsored by the Baptist Student Center.

Midnight Slip-N-Slide

11:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m., Ignite House (415 N. Pacific St.)

Crazy fun! Whether you want to take your turn or laugh at everyone else, come have a blast at the slip-n-slide with your new friends. This is one of the memory-making events of your college career. Sponsored by Ignite Campus Ministry.

Beer Goggle Obstacle Course 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Parker Field Race your friends or race complete strangers on our obstacle course. One requirement – you must wear beer goggles the entire time. Try your luck on the course or in one of the hamster balls to see how well you do. There is free food and drinks for anyone willing to face the challenge and additional prizes for winners.
