Schedule of the Day

Below is a schedule for the day's events and activities.  You will listen to a series of speakers who will help you better understand which classes to take, what resources are available to you on-campus, and how to take advantage of your new environment!

9 - 9:30 a.m. Check-in, ID & Refreshments  University Center
Fourth Floor
 
During check-in students will receive a packet of information including a schedule of the day, concern surveys, a student information booklet, as well as many other important materials.  During this time, may also have their ID pictures taken and speak with Orientation Leaders about their experiences at Southeast. 
9:30 - 9:40 a.m. Southeast Summary UC Ballroom
Assistant Director for New Student Programs, Theresa Haug Belvin, welcomes guests and describes the events of the afternoon.
9:40 - 10:10 a.m. Jump Start Your Southeast Schedule UC Ballroom 
Dr. David Starrett, Dean of University Studies, and Mrs. Debbie Howey from the Registrar's Office discuss graduation requirements and the University Studies Program. 
10:10 - 10:15 a.m. Writing Proficiency Exam Information UC Ballroom
Dr. David Reinheimer, Director of Writing Assessment, describes the importance of writing assessment and how it relates to transfer students at Southeast.
10:15 - 10:45 a.m.  Southeast Campus Connections  UC Ballroom
This session focuses on issues related to the transition process for students and family alike.  It is facilitated by Dr. Irene Ferguson, Dean of Students.  Staff members from Health & Counseling, Residence Life, Learning Assistance, Campus Safety, & Substance Abuse Prevention Education comprise a panel of experts ready and willing to discuss services available to the student body.
10:45 - 10:50 a.m. Transitioning Through Southeast University Center
Fourth Floor
Dr. Leon Book, Director of Student Transitions and the First-Year Experience will discuss Southeast's new Transition Initiative.
10:55 - 11:15 a.m.  On-Campus Living  UC Indian Room
A professional staff member from the Office of Residence Life will provide an overview of what it is to live in the residence halls, the resources available to students, as well as a description of the dining facilities.   
10:55 - 11:15 a.m. Off-Campus Living UC Ballroom
If you are a commuting to campus, a staff member from Student Development will offer tips on how to get involved and succeed as a Southeast commuter student.   
11:20 - 11:40 a.m.  Show-Me the Money  UC Ballroom
Do you have questions about financial aid, scholarships, or even the FAFSA?  This session will provide an overview of financing college.  If guests have specific questions about a student's financial aid, members of Student Financial Services are even available for questions after the session. 
11:40 - 11:45 a.m. Cape Girardeau Welcomes You UC Ballroom
A member of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce welcomes you to the city.  The Chamber of Commerce will explain some of the city's many attractions and resources for both students and their families to enjoy during their stay at Southeast.

Campus Tours & Info Sessions Various Locations
across Campus
At this point in the day, students will be lead by an Orientation Leader around campus.  Orientation Leaders will direct students to their advising appointment locations and answer specific questions about places and services on-campus. 
12:20 - 1 p.m.  Honors Meeting (includes lunch!)
for honors eligible students & guests

Dr. Craig Roberts of the Honors Program speaks with students and guests about Southeast's Honors Program.  In his session, Dr. Roberts will discuss the benefits of the program and describe completion requirements. 
12:20 - 1:15 p.m. Lunch & Info-to-Go
for all students & guests
UC Ballroom
Students and their guests may take time to eat lunch, ask questions, and browse our information fair, hosted by departments acorss campus.   
1:30 - 3:30 p.m.  Individual Advising Appointments
for all students who requested
an advising appointment
Locations across campus
 Students who have not yet met with an advisor and have requested an appointment will meet with an academic advisor at this time.  The advisor will help students choose classes which are best tailored to students' needs.
