Questions about Plans of Study, Progression through the Program and Advising

Is part-time study available?
No. Part-time study is not available. Students are encouraged to follow the curricular pattern on the Web site. Contact the Student Affairs Committee prior to any change in your program of study to discuss the issues/consequences.

Must I complete the courses in the sequence listed in your promotional materials and Web site?
Courses are offered in a prescribed sequence. That sequence allows for very limited flexibility in a student’s program of study.

How long will it take to complete the BSN Program?
It will take you four years to complete the program. The first two years you will take prerequisites and University required courses. The last two years you will take your nursing courses.

What grades are required for progression in the BSN Program?
Students must have a 2.8 GPA in order to be admitted to the program. Once they are admitted to the program, they must have a grade of ‘C’ or better in their nursing and support courses in order to stay in the program.

Is there a standard grading scale for courses within the Department of Nursing?
Yes. It is in the BSN Handbook.

Can I work full-time and successfully complete graduate course requirements?
This answer varies from student to student. Full-time work is not encouraged. A weekend option work schedule may be helpful if full-time employment is necessary.

Are accommodations available if I have a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?
Any student who believes that they may need an academic accommodation based on the impact of a disability should contact the instructor to arrange an appointment to discuss their individual needs. Instructors rely on Disability Services for assistance in verifying the need for academic accommodations and developing accommodation strategies. Students who have not already registered with Disability Services as a student with a disability will be encouraged to do so. Accommodations do not have to be granted unless the disability is verified by Disability Services. For assistance, please email ds@semo.edu or call 573-651-5927 or the web address is http://www.semo.edu/ds
