Questions about plans of study, progression through the program and advising

Is part-time study available?
No. Part-time study is not recommended. Students are encouraged to follow the curricular pattern on the Web site. Contact the Nursing Department’s director of graduate studies prior to any change in your program of study to discuss the issues/consequences.

Must I complete the courses in the sequence listed in your promotional materials and Web site?
Courses are offered in a prescribed sequence. That sequence allows for very limited flexibility in a student’s program of study.

How long will it take to complete the MSN Program?
The FNP option of the MSN program can be completed in two calendar years.

Is there a time limit for the completion of the MSN Degree?
The MSN program must be completed within four years. Students may formally request an extension. This requires approval by the Graduate Program Committee within the Department of Nursing.

What grades are required for progression in the MSN Program?
Students in the FNP option must earn a grade of “B” or higher in NS625 Advanced Pharmacology, NS636 Advanced Pathophysiology and NS628 Advanced Health Assessment in order to enroll in the first FNP specialty course – NS638 Primary Care I: Family.

Is there a standard grading scale for courses within the College of Nursing?
Yes. It is in the MSN Handbook.

Can I work full-time and successfully complete graduate course requirements?
This answer varies from student to student. Full-time work is not encouraged. A weekend option work schedule may be helpful if full-time employment is necessary.

Are accommodations available if I have a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?

When does the semester start, and where can I find the academic calendar online for the Department of Nursing graduate programs?
The Department of Nursing adheres to the University calendar and the deadlines of the Graduate School.
