It's that time of year again, and the Southeast Community is excited to welcome all students back to campus! The Southeast experience includes more than just attending classes; it's about being engaged in your University home and taking advantage of the countless opportunities we offer beginning the first week! Use this guide to see all the fun events we have planned for you.

Thursday, August 16

First-year students will check in during their scheduled time. Check-in times are listed in the move-in information mailed to each student in early June. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.

Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment Informational 1:30 pm; Towers Lobby OR 3:30 pm; UC

Parents: Do you have questions about Fraternities and Sororities at Southeast? Want to know more about the costs and benefits of membership? Drop by this informational session and get your questions answered! Sponsored by the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council.

Living in your Community: Residence Hall Floor Meetings & Activities 6:30 pm; Residence Lounges, Floors or Halls

All new students living in the residence halls will meet with their Resident Assistant and Hall Director who will introduce them to on-campus living. Your Resident Assistant will provide you with more information once you check into your hall. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.

Move-In Bash 8-10 pm;Normal Avenue/Kent Library Lawn

Meet new people while enjoying great music by Andrew Allen, a climbing wall, a photo booth, and other fun activities.

Commute and Connect! 9 am; Robert A. Dempster Hall 105 Calling all commuter students! At this session, you will get the inside scoop on what it's really like to be a commuter student. You'll have the opportunity to mingle with other commuters and get valuable information about how to get involved and connect with campus. Be sure you stop by to pick up your free Southeast t-shirt to wear to Convocation! The group will leave at approximately 9:40 to make their way to the Show Me Center for the Welcome Convocation. Sponsored by Campus Life & Event Services.
Welcome Convocation 10 am; Show Me Center Calling all first-year students! The Welcome Convocation is the one chance you will have to be with all of your peers entering Southeast in 2012! Be sure to wear the t-shirt you received during Residence Hall Check-In or at the Commute & Connect event Friday morning. At the Welcome Convocation, you will be greeted by University President Dr. Kenneth W. Dobbins and Student Government President Patrick Vining. You will also learn more about other Opening Week activities. Sponsored by New Student Programs.
Southeast 101 (for all new Southeast students) 11 am; Various campus locations

As first-year students, you will have the opportunity to connect with members of the Southeast faculty and staff, as well as your Opening Week Leader through this interactive session. Lunch will be provided with your Southeast 101 group. Southeast 101 groups will depart from the Show Me Center at the conclusion of the Welcome Convocation. Sponsored by New Student Programs.

College Meetings 2-4 pm; Various Campus Locations

Students will have the opportunity to hear the Dean of their College speak as well as interact with faculty members from their departments. Shuttles will be available to take students back to the Show Me Center parking lot at the conclusion of your meeting.

Honors Open House 3-6 pm; 603 N. Henderson

Honors students, as well as students interested in learning more about the Jane Stephens Honors Program, are invited to visit the Honors House and meet their colleagues in the honors community. The Honors House is located across Henderson Street from Memorial Hall. The Honors House has desktop and laptop computers, wireless access, TV, stereo and a full kitchen for the use of honors students as they study or relax. There is no formal program so come and go as it fits your schedule. Snacks and refreshments will be available. Sponsored by the Jane Stephens Honors Program.

Redhawks Soccer Game 6:30 pm; Houck Stadium

The Redhawks take on the Illinois State University Redbirds. Students have free admission with their student ID.

Student Government Ice Cream Pig Out 7 pm; SRC-North

This all-you-can-eat Southeast tradition offers great food, friends, and fun! After enjoying ice cream served by Southeast students and administrators, stick around for an exciting performance by Project Dynamite! Sponsored by your Student Government.

Project Dynamite 8 pm; SRC-North

It's "Saturday Night Live meets Cirque Du Soleil!" You'll see incredible stunts and hilarious comics. You may also get the chance to be a part of the show! You don't want to miss this crazy performance. Sponsored by the Student Activities Council.

Failure to complete the First STEP process will prevent students from registering for classes. Please register for the event by contacting New Student Programs at 651-5166. First Day of Group Fitness Schedule Times vary; SRC-North

Group Fitness classes offered by Recreation Services will start today. Our group fitness classes have something for everyone! Whether you are starting to be active regularly or you are trying to increase your endurance, you can find a class you will enjoy. You may try Kickboxing and Cycle fit for a challenging workout day. You may try Yoga for a relaxing and rejuvenating workout day. Try different classes to find your favorite! A semester unlimited pass is $40.00 or a one-time pass is $5.00.

Group Fitness Preview Week Times Vary through Aug. 24; SRC-North

Group Fitness Free Preview Week offers students opportunities to try our Group Fitness classes for FREE. Recreation Services offers a variety of Group Fitness classes. Try a class you have never participated or try an instructor whose classes you have never participated in. After the Preview Week is over, you are required to have a paid pass. SAA BBQ for ALL STUDENTS 5-7 pm; Kem Hall (Wehking Alumni Center)

The Student Alumni Association invites you to come see the Alumni Center and enjoy some pulled pork BBQ with your friends. The Wehking Alumni Center is located in the same parking lot as the South Recreation Center.

Fall Theatre Auditions 6 pm; River Campus-Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall

The two main stage fall shows will hold auditions and have callbacks the following evening. Come prepared with a 60-second monologue and a 16-bar cut of a song of your choice. "Grease" is Tony Award-winning and one of the longest running Broadway musicals of all time. "The Crucible" is Arthur Miller's Tony Award-winning drama about the Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem. Auditions will also be held for the second stage show, "On the Verge," Eric Overmyer's lighthearted jaunt through a continuum of space, time, history, geography, feminism and fashion. A 60-second prepared monologue is required for these auditions as well. For information, call 651-2149.

4-on-4 Volleyball Tournament & Ice Cream Bar 6-8 pm; Parker Field

Make your favorite sundae and watch or participate in a volleyball game. Sign your team up at www.ccmin.org. Sponsored by Catholic Campus Ministry.
