Can my student get the classes he/she needs in order to graduate? Is it possible for him/her to graduate in four years?

Southeast generally does not have a problem with course availability.  During some semesters, some class sections may close or fill up, but with more than 1,600 courses offered each semester, students can put together a viable schedule.  If your student needs a specific class and it has filled or is closed, he/she can typically be placed on a waitlist where they will be added when the next open seat becomes available.  When possible, the University also attempts to add extra class sections in order to give students the opportunity to get the classes they need.

The summer semester at Southeast includes both six- and eight-week sessions where students can get the classes they need to succeed and Southeast also offers an extensive online program called Southeast Online, which are those courses and degrees which can be completed through the Web.  Instruction, assignments, class discussions - all facets of a high quality class - are part of our online classes.

Whether or not your student can graduate in four years depends on many factors.  Changing majors can affect the amount of time it takes to complete a degree.  Decisions to carry a double major, to work excessive hours in a job while taking classes, or to drop courses can affect the time needed to complete a degree. Keep in mind that statistically, 65 percent of all college students take five or more years to complete a baccalaureate degree.

Those students who are in the teacher education program should keep in mind that the block program necessitates careful planning as well as acceptable test scores on the ACT and CBASE in order to complete the program in a reasonable amount of time.  In addition, programs with additional certification such as early childhood education or special education may take additional semesters to complete.

But with effective planning, Southeast students can and do graduate in four years.
