Instructor Development School

This course is 40 hours and costs $250.  This course is not included in the CEU contract.  It will be held in the Law Enforcement Academy classroom at 122 S. Ellis, Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Course Summary:
This course addresses the skills required to be proficient as a law enforcement academy or continuing education instructor, and fulfills the P.O.S.T. requirement that all instructors must complete an Instructor Development School within the first year of their appointment as an instructor.

The course will cover such topics as:

  • Principles of Learning
  • Methods of Instruction
  • Public Speaking
  • Legal Aspects of Training
  • Test Construction
  • Training Aides
  • Lesson Plan Construction
  • Source Document Construction
  • Lesson Plan Construction (practical exercises)
  • Practical Teaching Exercises

Continuing Education Units awarded for the successful completion of this course include:

Attendance Policy:
"Students attending Continuing Education programs sponsored by the Southeast Missouri State University Law Enforcement Academy must attend all of the regular blocks of instruction in order to receive a certificate of completion.  In Continuing Education Programs, which consist of discreet blocks of instruction, the student may receive continuing education credits for those blocks which are actually completed."
