Law Enforcement Supervisor's School

Course Summary:
The Police Supervision School focuses on the functions of a first line supervisor as well as the special knowledge and skills required for effectively supervising in a present-day agency. Students attending this course will not only receive valuable information, but they will have the opportunity to practice what they have learned by being involved in meaningful practical exercises. Topics covered in the Police Supervision School include:

  • Role of the supervisor
  • Understanding you personal supervision style
  • Leadership skills
  • Productivity and motivation techniques
  • Communication Skills
  • Inter-personal relationships
  • Promoting trust
  • How to handle discipline problems
  • Supervising liability
  • Media relations
  • Supervisor response to critical incidents
  • Practical exercises

Attendance Policy:
"Students attending Continuing Education programs sponsored by the Southeast Missouri State University Law Enforcement Academy must attend all of the regular blocks of instruction in order to receive a certificate of completion. In Continuing Education Programs, which consist of discreet blocks of instruction, the student may receive continuing education credits for those blocks which are actually completed."
