The Department of Polytechnic Studies offers the associate of applied science in computer technology with the following options:
The Automated Manufacturing option incorporates a combination of industrial technology and manufacturing components designed to prepare you for positions in the manufacturing/ production sectors of industry. Course work includes robotics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), materials testing, industrial materials and processes, and drafting and solid modeling. Upon completion of this option, students may easily transition to a Bachelor of Science Degree with an Engineering Technology major and a Mechanical & Manufacturing Systems option.
The Microcomputer Systems option is designed to prepare students with background and skills to design, implement, and support networked systems in both standard and enterprise settings. It builds a solid foundation in the hardware and architecture of telecommunications networks and systems; operating systems and applications; systems design and analysis; networking theory and solutions; types of networks, including fiber optics and wireless; network management and control; network and flow optimization; network security; configuring; and troubleshooting. Upon completing this option, students may easily transition to a Bachelor of Science Degree Technology Management Major with a Telecommunications and Computer Networking option.
The Technical Computer Graphics option is designed to provide you with a background in the technical communication industry. The program provides a full background in 2-D and 3-D design, including webpage design, video editing, multimedia, animation, graphic design, and photography. Upon completing this option, students may easily transition to a Bachelor of Science Degree Technology Management Major with a Computer and Multimedia Graphics option.
