College is an important investment in your future. Although you and your family have the primary responsibility for financing your college education, you should not overlook the possibility of financial assistance.
Students may access the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ or pick up a paper application at the CBEC office. Entering electronically will provide faster results.
Title IV Codes required on FAFSA forms are:
Southeast Missouri State University: 002501
For additional information regarding financial aid, scholarships, etc., visit the financial aid pages at Southeast website. All financial aid is handled through the financial aid offices on the main campuses.
- What forms do I need to fill out to apply for financial aid?
You will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), most often referred to as the "Pell grant application," which is available from the CBEC office.
However, filing the FAFSA form online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ can save you approximately two weeks of processing time when compared to using the paper FAFSA.
- If I am a first-time student, must I be accepted for admission before I apply for financial aid? Must I be admitted before I receive aid?
You may apply for financial aid at the same time you apply for admission. However, before your file will be processed and an award offered, you must have completed admission requirements for Southeast Missouri State University.
- I plan to go to college part-time. Will that lessen my chance of receiving financial aid?
In most situations, the answer is "no." However, remember that Congress usually passes laws each session which can cause some changes to government-assisted financial aid. If you are not eligible for the Pell Grant, there are other forms of financial assistance, such as Stafford Loans.
- Do I have to apply for financial aid each year that I am enrolled?
Yes. Your financial situation must be reassessed each year. However, after the first year you apply for aid, you will only need to fill out a renewal FAFSA application. Renewal forms will be sent directly to you. This renewal form is not as long, nor as complicated.
Additional information is available online through Southeast Missouri State University Student Financial Services.
