Welcome to Southeast Missouri State University. It is my privilege to serve as the Interim Provost and have the opportunity to work with the many talented people that make up our faculty and staff and the outstanding and diverse individuals that comprise our student body. I have served in a number of roles over my twenty-one years with the university. These experiences provide the basis for the enthusiasm and appreciation I hold for what Southeast offers students – high quality, accessible academic programs that create opportunities for our graduates to succeed.
While, as the chief academic officer, it is my responsibility to provide institutional oversight of the academic affairs of the university, I also believe it is my responsibility to represent our faculty, students and academic programs to our larger community so they understand we are trustworthy stewards of the public and private resources given us to fulfill the university's mission. I also believe a chief academic officer is responsible for encouraging and supporting creative and innovative endeavors that improve our curricula, enhance student success and contribute to the professional development of the faculty within the context of the teacher-scholar model. Teaching and scholarship are sides of the same coin we call learning. Learning is what we value most.
Regardless of how you are connected to Southeast Missouri State University, I want you to understand that you are an important part of our academic community. Do not hesitate to contact me or the Office of the Provost if you have questions, need assistance, or have advice to offer.
