The Missouri Rice Research and Merchandising Council

The Missouri Rice and Merchandising Council is composed of elected representatives from counties in Missouri that produce rice. The rice producers of Missouri elect the council members for two year memberships.

The new Missouri Rice Research Farm is a 110 acre facility featuring emerging technologies in irrigated rice production. The Missouri Rice Research Farm is located on Highway J in northern Dunklin County, Missouri. Annual research activities include rice breeding and variety evaluation, rice culture management, soil fertility, entomology, plant pathology, weed science, water quality and management, avian management, and soil stewardship.

The Agricultural Research Center Objectives:

  1. Utilize a rice producer-based management committee (Missouri Rice Council) to assist in providing direction to cooperating research scientists associated with the University Missouri-Columbia, Southeast MO State University, and various Federal Agencies in designing research projects to advance rice farming in southeast Missouri.
  2. Provide annual “field days” to illustrate producer-oriented emerging technologies and research.
  3. Provide facilities for the breeding of rice varieties supporting Missouri and United States rice production.
  4. Conduct demonstrations and research to promote environmental stewardship of soil, water, air and biological resources.
  5. Provide unbiased research for Agribusiness and other agriculturally related entities.
