'The Carnival of the Animals' Orchestra Concert

French composer Saint-Saens’ masterpiece, the Carnival of the Animals, brings alive the sounds of zoo animals and other creatures in this fun and fabulous composition for two pianists and orchestra.  This concert also presents Poulenc’s thrilling Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra.

The program will include:

  • Saint-Saens, Carnival of the Animals
  • Ravel, Pavane pour une enfante defunte
  • Poulenc, Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra
  • Matt Yount and Tyson Wunderlich, piano soloists
  • Tom Harte, narrator


About the performers:

Matt Yount and Tyson Wunderlich, pianists, are both alumni of Southeast Missouri State University, where they graduated with degrees in piano performance.  Both also hold Master’s Degrees in Music, and have won many competitions as pianists.  Matt Yount and Tyson Wunderlich are also both previous winners of Southeast’s Concerto and Aria Competition, and appeared as soloists with the symphony in performances of Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto (Wunderlich) and Grieg Concerto (Yount).  Matt Yount is Instructor of Music at Southeast Missouri State University, where he serves as Accompanist for the Department of Music; Tyson Wunderlich is Adjunct Instructor of Music for Southeast.

Tom Harte, narrator, is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Speech, Communication, and Theatre at Southeast Missouri State University, and is well-known in the community as the host of the popular classical music program Caffe Concerto presented each weekday on KRCU, Southeast Missouri’s National Public Radio Station.

The Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra is a full symphonic orchestra that performs the great symphonic orchestra repertoire from the 18th century to today.  It performs four subscription series concerts each year, and also presents free educational programs for schools and for the community.  Its artistic director, Dr. Sara Edgerton, is a faculty member of Southeast Missouri State University; she is also the Professor of Cello and String Bass at Southeast.
