The Ste. Genevieve and Iron Mountain Plank Road was built in the 1850s to transport pig iron from the mines of Iron Mountain and Pilot Knob to the Mississippi River port at Ste. Genevieve. It was only in use for five years before the railroad came to town, shutting down the wooden toll road.

Dr. Mark Stauter is an historian who administers the Western Historical Manuscript Collection at the University of Missouri-Rolla. He spoke about the old plank road with SEPR's Jacob McCleland.
