SIU Scholar Close to Burmese Crisis

The latest estimates say that at least one hundred thousand died as a result of the weekend cyclone that ravaged the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar, also known as Burma.

Lisa Brooten teaches Media Studies at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. She has studied the media in Myanmar, as well as the role of media that opposes the military regime.

Dr. Brooten is currenlty conducting research in Thailand, and she spoke via telephone with SEPR's Jacob McCleland.
