Could Truckers be the New Pirates? A Conversation with Mike and the Ninja’s Brian Rhodes by Jason Brown
Brian Rhodes’ day job is a graphic designer at The Southeast Missourian. He’s also the creator of Mike and the Ninja, an ongoing web-comic that chronicles the adventures of Mike, an unemployed TV and bridge repair-man, and Stu, who is a ninja. Rhodes started his comic 9 years ago when he was a sophomore in high school. It's set in San Francisco as that location affords him the opportunity to have rad ninja tricks merge with trolleys. The heroes of the story have battled such wretched villains as the mayor of San Francisco, Mike’s former boss, an evil ninja, and even The Trucker’s Union. As with everything these days, the internet has proven to be a great distribution system for independently created content, and comics are no exception. Rhodes says he’s optimistic that Mike and the Ninja could turn into his sole job by monetizing it with merchandise sales. You can read Mike and the Ninja at http://www.mikeandtheninja.com/. |
