Dr. Wayne Bowen, the chair of Southeast Missouri State University's History Department, has been invited to present at the 3rd International History Congress in Paris, France on Thursday, February 11. The congress's theme is "Oil and War." Dr. Bowen will discuss the Spanish fuel shortage during World War II and how Spain's neutrality affected the Franco regime's access to Allied oil supplies.
During World War II, 90 percent of the world’s oil was controlled by the Allies. That caused quite the conundrum for neutral Spain and Franco's Nazi sympathies.
Dr. Bowen spoke with KRCU's Jacob McCleland.
