Renee Jean is the assistant managing editor of The Daily Journal newspaper in St. Francois County. She summarizes current events in the Parkland, including:

Daily Journal reporter Paula Barr appeared on the BBC for her part in bringing down a scam artist;

+  The dental care crisis in Missouri;

+ The Central R3 School District adopted a random drug testing policy.

The Center for Regional History at Southeast Missouri State University and the Genealogical Society recently acquired a near-complete collection of The Cape Girardeau Weekly Argus, a local newspaper that was printed from 1863 to 1871. The newspaper is now housed at Southeast Missouri State University’s Kent Library.

Lisa Speer, Special Collections Librarian at Southeast Missouri State University and Bill Eddleman, president of the Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society, spoke with Jacob McCleland.
