Lynn Morrow is the Director of the Missouri State Archive and Jim Denny is an historian with the Division of State Parks in the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. They were recently brought to Cape Girardeau by the Cape Girardeau Weekly Argus newspaper.
The Argus was printed between June 1863 and June 1871. A nearly complete collection of the Argus was donated to Southeast Missouri State University’s Kent Library in 2008. The collection was held in an attic in Quincy, Illinois until it was sold to the Cape Girardeau Genealogical Society and subsequently donated to the university. Prior to the donation, Kent Library did not have any newspapers from that time period.
Lynn Morrow and Jim Denny spoke with Southeast Missouri State University historian, Dr. Frank Nickell.
