After a pretty big scare, the Tour of Missouri is on. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon nearly froze $1.5 million dollars in funding for the professional bicycle race, which put the event in jeopardy. After considering the options, Nixon decided to maintain state funding. The Tour of Missouri will include a Ste. Genevieve to Cape Girardeau stage, and a Farmington to Rolla stage.
Tracey Glenn, co-chair of the local organizing committee in Cape Girardeau, spoke with KRCU's Jacob McCleland about the Tour of Missouri.

Southeast Missouri State University will be the recipient of a $2 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will go towards renovation of the science labs in Magill Hall.
$1.1 million will be used to renovate six rooms, and the remaining money will go towards equipment, faculty development, program assessment, and an endowment. Jacob McCleland visited the classrooms and talked with Dr. Chris McGowan, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, and Teresa Wilke, Director of Grant Development.

In her new work, Ruppel Shell looks at how the American obsession with finding “a great deal” and getting the best bargain has eliminated “affordable quality,” has sent jobs overseas, and cluttered our homes with disposable goods. Ellen Ruppel Shell spoke with Jacob McCleland.
