On today’s program we’re heading underground to visit one of Perry County’s many caves, where we’ll meet the grotto sculpin. It’s a little pale fish that only lives in Perry County, Missouri and nowhere else in the world.

Last week, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon announced that the state is applying for over $142 million in federal recovery funds. The money would be used to expand broadband internet service throughout the state. According to figures from the Governor’s office, the project, known as MoBroadbandNow, would increase the percentage of Missourians with access to broadband service from 79.7% to over 91%.
Governor Jay Nixon’s press secretary, Scott Holste, joins us to discuss plans to expand broadband service further out into rural areas.

The Conservation Stewardship Program is a voluntary conservation program run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. The program encourages farmers to undertake additional conservation activities, as well as improve, maintain, and manage existing ones.
James Hunt, district conservationist in the Jackson office of the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, joins us to discuss the program.
