Charges have been brought against a convicted rapist who killed five women in Cape Girardeau in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Timothy Krajcir confessed to the 1977 murder of Brenda and Mary Parsh and Sheila Cole and the 1982 rapes and killings of Margie Call and Mildred Wallace. Carbondale, Illinois police also connected Krajcir to the 1982 murder of Deborah Sheppard, a student at Southern Illinois University. Cape Girardeau Police Chief Carl Kennison discusses the investigation.

Former State Representative Nathan Cooper was sentenced to prison time on charges of immigration fraud. This comes after resigning his Missouri House Seat and losing his right to practice law in Missouri. Rudi Keller of the Southeast Missourian newspaper has been covering the story and talks about the culmination of the Nathan Cooper saga.

For over 50 years, a small secluded monastery of Benedictine monks has thrived in southern Missouri.  The monks are known far and wide for their culinary skills and are hard at work this time of year.  Jennifer Moore reports.

Smoking bans, battles over who gets money from the Taum Sauk reservoir collapse, and a Missouri Supreme Court case are all ongoing issues in the Parkland. Renee Jean, assistant managing editor of Ste. Francois County’s Daily Journal newspaper, reviews these events.

In November, two teams of researchers announced that they’ve been able to make ordinary skin cells act like embryonic stem cells. It’s a major breakthrough in the science world because it has the potential to remove the ethical and moral dilemmas that have plagued the embryonic stem cell research debate. KWMU’s science reporter Julie Bierach found that’s not exactly the case.  She’s been looking into the impact that the new research has had on the debate in Missouri.
