The Bacardi name is most closely associated with rum. But the Bacardi family is just as closely tied to the history of their Cuban homeland as entrepreneurs, as leaders of the independence movement against Spain, and as supporters of Castro’s revolution ... until Castro expropriated the firm and the Bacardi family went into exile.

NPR correspondent and author Tom Gjelten wrote a new book about the history of Cuba and Bacardi. He spoke with SEPR's Jacob McCleland.
