The recent increase in pirate activity off the coast of Somalia has led to much greater interest around the world in modern day pirates. John S. Burnett is the author of “Dangerous Waters: Modern Piracy and Terror on the High Seas,” and he has firsthand knowledge of pirates. Burnett spoke to KRCU's Jacob McCleland from Switzerland.

Let’s take a second, and imagine that it’s summer. It’s hot here in Southeast Missouri, and you decide that you want to take your family on a quick weekend trip to the Current or to the Black River. Camp out. Maybe go floating. Enjoy the water. But instead of a nice break from the heat and humidity … you find a bunch of drunks. With beer bongs. And Jell-O shots.

We'll speak with Delbert Scott, a Missouri Senator from Lowry City who has filed legislation that would limit some of the partying on Missouri Rivers.

A new program aims to promote literacy in the small Central American nation of Belize. They are accepting donations in the form of books at several locations in Cape Girardeau and St. Louis. The program is called “Books for Belize.” Tammy Balwin, a Mass Communications professor at Southeast Missouri State University, joins us to discuss the program which will provide reading materials for 13 rural libraries.
