The allegations of corruption against Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich may have surprised a lot of people across the country, but to many Illinoisans it may have come as less than a shock. Blagojevich, a Democrat, was under federal investigation since 2005 for a variety of deals, ranging from granting contracts and jobs to campaign contributors to his relationship with Tony Rezko.

On today's Going Public, we're joined by the retired director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, Mike Lawrence, who has followed Illinois politics for 44 years.
