Dr. Bonnie Stepenoff spent a fall living and working at Big Spring in Missouri’s Ozarks. As a historic preservationist, she worked to restore this beautiful and relatively unknown historic park. Stepenoff wrote a book about her experience, Big Spring Autumn, in which she reflects upon “hills, hillbillies, poverty, and the landscape making people what they are.”

Stefan Fadsis is a sportswriter for the Wall Street Journal and a weekly sports contributor to NPR’s All Things Considered. In his previous book – Word Freak – Fadsis infiltrated the world of competitive Scrabble players. In his latest book, he becomes part of a decidedly more physical sport…the NFL. The book is A Few Seconds of Panic…and it’s the story of a 5-foot-8, 170 pound 43 year old who goes through training camp with the Denver Broncos.
