Southeast Missouri State University's current farm is located on the spot of the new Jackson interchange. This year it will be gobbled up by the development.
The university's new farm is located just outside of Gordonville. It will have all the same features of the old farm - primarily beef cattle - and will also have row crops.
The row crops will receive water via a subterranean irrigation system. Southeast is the first university in the nation to conduct research on this kind of experimental system.
The irrigation system is funded by a new USDA Rural Development grant.
Dr. Michael Aide, chairperson of the Department of Agriculture, spoke to SEPR's Jacob McCleland. |
