Labor migration has existed in some form in this country since the 1800s. Today the focus is on Mexican migrant laborers.
Warren Anderson is an anthropology professor at Southeast Missouri State University who has decades of experience working with Mexican laborers in Cobden, Ill. Many of these workers come from a community called Cherán in Michoacán province. His ethnographic work with migrants has led to interesting insights and the ability to put a "human face" on the often politicized issue of illegal immigration.
