Bob Neff, owner of Ford Groves in Cape Girardeau, says that increased federal fuel efficiency standards could potentially hurt local business. Auto dealers fear that manufacturers will produce new vehicles in order to meet these standards that consumers will not want to buy.
Additionally, he says, the market is already moving in the direction of more fuel efficient automobiles, so there is no need to mandate it.
