Recent flooding left enormous amounts of rural land in Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri under water. While roads, telephone and electric service has been restored to towns, villages, and homes, wildlife habitats and agricultural land remain inaccessible.
The flooding was most extensive in smaller watersheds which were overwhelmed by the sheer amount of rainfall.
