The Winter Project

with KRCU General Manager Dan Woods

KRCU_WinterProject_2009

Winter projects. We all have them. They are those things inside the house that we need to attend to but when it’s nice outside, it’s hard to focus on that inside “to-do” list.

After winter sets in, we’re cooped up inside and it’s the perfect time to work on those winter projects. That’s what we’re doing here at KRCU. We’re going through the collection of LPs and CDs that have managed to find a home here at the radio station over the years.

There are a LOT of LPs and CDs and the collection is very eclectic. There’s folk music, rock, country, Irish ballads, classical, spoken word, jazz and much more.

Join us Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. beginning in January for KRCU’s Winter Project.

01/04/12 Countdown with music from Bing Crosby, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Elvis and much more. What kind of countdown? Well, we'll start with 78s, then play a set on 45s and wrap up with 33s. It's the most unique countdown on the radio with records of ALL sizes. View Playlist
01/11/12 Odds & Ends with songs that didn't make it on another show but I meant to play. It includes Little Jimmy Driftwood, Luciano Pavarotti, Minnie Pearl and many more. View Playlist
01/18/12 Free for All with no particular theme or place to go...just great music. We'll hear from Johnny Mathis with "Teacher, Teacher" along with music from Paul Simon's Graceland LP. Plus, we take note of the "Fine Flowers in the Valley" with Jean Redpath and visit "No Man's Land" with Barley Bree. And we'll hear some great jazz from The Earl Klugh Trio and much more. 01/25/12 A show of "two-fers" with two songs from the same artist. We'll hear "Froggy Went a Courtin'" by Tex Ritter, "Turkey in the Straw" by Bill Monroe -- plus, two from Odetta and the Clancy Brothers. And, Allan Sherman sings about the "Spanish Flea" along with two from Johnny Mathis. View Playlist
02/01/12 KRCU's Jason Brown guest hosts this week and he's got one-of-a-kind folk singer Buffy Sainte-Marie, Neil Young, and alt-country superstar Neko Case on the show. Plus, Blondie, Men at Work, and Talk Talk in a segment called "I Thought the 80's were Pretty OK." Plus, 90's hip-hop icons Cypress Hill. View Playlist
02/08/12 Play It Again, Dan. The songs on this edition of The Winter Project are so good, we should probably play them twice. We'll hear "Sweet Caroline," "Mrs. Robinson" a few from Jimmie Driftwood and Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" and music from Broadway, too. View Playlist
02/15/12 Love & Romance. All of our songs are about love somehow -- lost lost, found love and just love in general. We'll have music from Johnny Mathis, Jean Redpath, Jimmy Driftwood, Buck Owens and many more. View Playlist
