1)    For what monarch did Handel write the Royal Fireworks music?

ANSWER: King George II in 1749 to celebrate the end of the War of Austrian Succession, and the signing of the Treaty of Aix La Chappelle.

2)    How many symphonies are listed in the Hoboken Catalog?

ANSWER: Bit of a trick question.  The symphonies are listed in Hoboken I, where they number 108, but this includes I/105 – a Sinfonia concertante, and I/106 a fragment from a symphony that has not survived – so the total is reckoned at 104.
